Haryana Govt. 'removes' Sharma

By Our Special Correspondent

CHANDIGARH AUG. 14. Even as the Haryana Government today ``removed'' the controversial IPS officer, Ravi Kant Sharma, as Inspector-General (Prisons) and appointed Laik Ram, DIG, Haryana Armed Police, in his place, the Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chautala, told presspersons that action, including suspension, would take place only after Sharma, prime suspect in the Shivani Bhatnagar murder case, either surrendered or was arrested.

While sources said that Mr. Laik Ram had been appointed DIG (Prisons) after Sharma failed to rejoin duty on expiry of his 10 days leave, Mr. Chautala described the appointment as a ``routine administrative matter''.

Interestingly, Mr. Chautala disclosed that at least two senior officers, one IPS and one IAS, were ``missing'' for quite some time. One of them was regularly sending medical certificates, he added.
