Equal representation on Congress panel for T.N.

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI AUG. 16. In keeping with the spirit of accommodation that saw the return of the Tamil Maanila Congress to the Indian National Congress on Wednesday, the newly-constituted coordination committee for the Tamil Nadu unit of the party gives equal representation to both the groups.

Of the 30 members in the coordination committee — constituted by the All-India Congress Committee today — 14 each are from the Congress and the erstwhile TMC. Also, included are Vazhappadi K. Ramamurthy of the Tamizhaga Rajiv Congress — which merged with the Congress earlier — and Kumari Ananthan.

Today's announcement came two days after the TMC merged with the Congress, and the coordination committee will oversee the party's activities in the State till the Tamil Nadu Pradesh Congress Committee is constituted in full, a task that could well take a couple of months.

As expected, the coordination committee has both the PCC president, E.V.K.S. Elangovan, and the erstwhile TMC chief, G.K. Vasan.

Others from the TMC on the committee are: S.R. Balasubramaniam, S. Balakrishnan, G. Buvaraghavan, S.G. Vinayakamurthy, Jayanti Natarajan, Dhanushkodi Adityan, B.S. Gnanadesikan, S. Peter Alphonse, N.S.V. Chittan, K. Paramalai, D. Sudarsanam, K.S. Alagiri and Tamilaruvi Maniyan.

The other members are: M.P. Subramaniam, Tindivanam Ramamurthy, D. Yasodha, R. Prabhu, K.V. Thangabalu, Mani Shankar Aiyer, E.M. Sudarsana Natchiappan, M. Arunachalam, Anbarasu, Krishnaswamy, V. Rajasekharan, Vijayaraghavan and Abbas Ibrahim.
