First woman member of the Rly. Board

CHENNAI Aug. 17. For the first time in the history of Indian Railways, a woman officer has been inducted into the Railway Board. Vijayalakshmi Viswanathan, Additional General Manager, Southern Railway, is promoted to the GM cadre and posted as the Additional Member of the Railway Board (Budgeting). She will be in charge of budgeting and assisting the Financial Commissioner of the Railways. Mrs. Vijayalakshmi was the first officer to become the first Divisional Railway Manager and the first Additional General Manager in Indian Railways.
