Pawar hails EC decision

Rajkot Aug. 17. Hailing the Election Commission's decision to consider holding Assembly polls in Gujarat only in November-December, the Nationalist Congress Party president, Sharad Pawar, today reiterated his demand for imposition of President's rule in the State.

Addressing mediapersons here along with the former Prime Ministers, H.D. Deve Gowda and Chandra Shekhar, Mr. Pawar said those trying to take political advantage by dividing people on caste basis had failed to achieve their aim of early polls.

The leaders, who were in the city on their way to Amreli — where the NCP has organised a day-long farmers' sammelan — said as per the Constitution, President's rule should be imposed in the State in October. However, it should be imposed now taking into consideration the vacation between two sittings of the Assembly.
