Sharma moves Delhi High Court

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI AUG.17. The dislodged Inspector-General (Prisons) of the Haryana police, Ravi Kant Sharma, prime accused in the Shivani Bhatnagar murder case, today moved the Delhi High Court for anticipatory bail.

A Panchkula court in Haryana and a Delhi court in separate orders have rejected Mr. Sharma's bail plea.

The Panchkula court refused to hear his application on the ground of limitation of its jurisdiction while the Delhi court dismissed his application saying that prima facie there was sufficient material on record revealing his involvement in the crime.

Mr. Sharma moved the High Court through his counsel.

The application is likely to come up for hearing on Monday or Tuesday.

Mr. Sharma submitted that there was more than what met the eye as the case was pending for the past three-and-a-half years, and that it was suddenly opened though there was no fresh material to make out a case against him.

He had cooperated whenever the Delhi police called him so far.

Referring to the non-bailable warrants issued against him by a Delhi court, he said it was unwarranted and had no legal significance.

On the statements of the two co-accused in the case— Sri Bhagwan Sharma and Pradeep Sharma— Mr. Sharma's petition said that their statements could not be legally used against him.

He urged the court to grant him anticipatory bail with whatever conditions it wanted.
