Shed rhetoric, India, Pak. told

By Our Staff Reporter

Jammu Aug. 17. Amanullah Khan, founder chairman, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, today came down heavily on the leadership of India and Pakistan for their "hawkish attitude" towards the Kashmir issue.

Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Khan said, "it seems that the real enemy not only of the people of Jammu and Kashmir but of the masses of the subcontinent is the hawkish leadership of both countries.'' Calling upon New Delhi and Islamabad to shed their extremist positions, he said "the oft-repeated rhetoric of the two countries and their readiness to teach each other a lesson, instead of talking of peace and friendship, has harmed one-fifth of humanity and invited the danger of an atomic war.''

A bright, prosperous and respectful future for India and Pakistan lay in friendship and not enmity, he said, and the only way to achieve the all-important objective of peace was to build a bridge of friendship.
