Pointing to similar attempts made by the ruling party in the recent past, he said the designs would not succeed. Asked whether there was a larger context for the raids timed for the August 19 DMK rally Mr. Karunanidhi said the processions would go on with ``even more vigour''. In that sense, the raids helped the cause of the rally, he felt. The very fact that a former AIADMK Minister now with the DMK was among those whose houses were searched, indicated the extent to which the present Government would stoop to settle scores. ``In Salem, for instance, (at the former DMK Minister, Veerapandi S. Arumugham's residence) I am told, they took away a passport and some loan documents. In which house are there no documents at all?'' Mr. Karunanidhi pointed out that when his party was in power any search or arrest was made only after due procedure was followed. Even the present Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, was arrested only when the judge hearing her anticipatory bail plea said there was a prima facie case against her. ``But now, they first conduct raids or arrest people, as it happened in my case. Then they look for charges to be framed.'' Mr. Karunanidhi said he was not aware of any development in the cases involving him or others. He was arrested and let off; so were the other DMK leaders. After that, no enquiries were held, nor any explanation was sought.
