Nine more arrested

By Our Special Correspondent

Tiruchi Aug. 17. The Jayamkondam police today arrested Velmurugan and eight others of Suryamanal, Keezhakkudiyiruppu, and Valavaneri villages in connection with the attack on August 15 on the Sri Ranga theatre, where the film `Baba' was to have been screened.

The police had already arrested two persons yesterday including S. Pari, district PMK youth wing joint secretary.

S.G. Rajendran, DIG, Tiruchi Range, said police bandobust had been provided to the theatre and pickets posted on all main roads leading to the theatre. The police was also keeping a strict vigil on the Jayamkondam-Cuddalore road.

Meanwhile, the State president of the Janata Dal (Secular), C. Balaraman, has expressed concern over threats to theatres screening the film in Vanniyar pockets and urged the Government to take steps to prevent any untoward incident.

The PMK leader, Ramadoss, had raised a controversy unnecessarily over the film and only harmed the peaceful atmosphere prevailing in the State.
