Advani drops U.S. visit

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI AUG. 18. The Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, has dropped the U.S. leg of his foreign visit. Mr. Advani will now pay a three-day scheduled visit to the U.K. beginning on August 21 and return to the Capital on August 23.

Mr. Advani was slated to visit New Jersey, U.S., after rounding off his visit to the U.K. but the decision to call it off was taken in view of the "sudden developments'' here, particularly the situation in Gujarat and the Government initiatives in Jammu and Kashmir, where Assembly polls are scheduled for September-October.

Official sources said the U.K visit could not be put off as it had been postponed once earlier.
