Jalpaiguri killers in Bhutan?

By Our Special Correspondent

Kolkata AUG. 19. Activists of the Kamtapur Liberation Organisation, who gunned down six CPI (M) leaders in the Dhupguri party office in Jalpaiguri, north Bengal, on Saturday, are believed to have fled to Bhutan, police said.

They, however, did not rule out the possibility of the assailants escaping to Bangladesh through Coochbehar, a district adjoining Jalpaiguri. The borders between Bengal and Bhutan had been sealed. The West Bengal Chief Minister, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, will visit Dhupguri on September 1. The Director-General of Police, D. C. Vajpai, is camping there and overseeing the security arrangements.

Chayan Mukherjee, Inspector-General, Law and Order, said today that police were reviewing the security of five Ministers from north Bengal. About 100 police personnel, especially trained by the Army, had been deployed in the areas where the KLO was active.
