BOXING: LAS VEGAS: Laila Ali, (in picture) daughter of legend Muhammad Ali, won her first boxing title, an International Boxing Association (IBA) super-middleweight crown, beating fellow American Suzy Taylor in bout stopped by the referee here on Sunday. Ali kept her unbeaten record of 12 wins in as many outings, under the gaze of the great former world heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali, who watched ringside. ``I wanted to start with solid blows to the body but when I saw how slow she was I said to myself that I had better go for a KO,'' said Ali, the second-youngest of Muhammad Ali's nine children. BASKETBALL: TAMPA (FLORIDA): Organisers were at a loss to explain why Shaquille O'Neal failed to show up on Sunday at a youth basketball camp and charity game bearing the Los Angeles Lakers star's name. People paid up to $250 each for tickets to the two-day clinic and a celebrity game on Sunday night, which was supposed to feature O'Neal and other NBA players. Toronto's Vince Carter, Portland's Dale Davis and former NBA star Robert Parish were at the game, which capped the Shaquille O'Neal Tampa Celebrity Basketball Weekend. ``Everyone's disappointed: the kids, the parents, the community,'' said promoter Darryl Madison of Paramount Celebrity Management Co. CRICKET: LONDON: Former Zimbabwe captain Duncan Fletcher says he wants to stay on as England coach for at least another three years. ``At this stage I'd really like to carry on,'' Fletcher was quoted as saying in the Mail newspaper. ``With the group of players we have now, our bases are covered and there is a lot of young talent around as well. As long as we don't start messing around, I think English cricket is in for an exciting two or three years.'' SYDNEY: All-rounder Andrew Symonds was called up to replace injured Darren Lehmann for Australian cricket team's tour of Kenya later this month. The Australians are scheduled to play a limited over triangular tournament with the hosts Kenya and Pakistan at Nairobi from August 28 to September 7. Lehmann, who fractured the little finger on the left hand while playing for English county side Yorkshire, failed to clear a medical test. FOOTBALL: MILAN: Inter Milan's president said that World Cup star Ronaldo will stay with his Italian team after all, denying published reports that the Brazilian striker could sign with Real Madrid within a few days. ``Ronaldo will stay with Inter,'' Club President Massimo Moratti told the Italian news agency ANSA from his vacation resort along the Tuscan coast. Moratti said, however, that the club had held talks with Spain's Real Madrid about Ronaldo's transfer. VOLLEYBALL: BELO HORIZONTE (BRAZIL): Russia won volleyball's World League beating Brazil 3-1 in the final. The Russians won 25-21, 25-23, 22-25, 25-17. Also, Yugoslavia beat Italy 28-26, 29-27, 23-25, 25-21 in the third-place match. GOLF: CHASKA: American Rich Beem (in picture) became one of the most unlikely winners in major tournament history, firing a closing round of four-under-par 68 to clinch the U.S. PGA championship by one stroke at Hazeltine. The 31-year-old, who began the day, on Sunday, three strokes behind overnight leader Justin Leonard, held off a late challenge by Tiger Woods with superb attacking golf before finishing at 10-under 278 in calm and sunny conditions. Woods, who was bidding to become the first player to win three majors in a year for a second time, then birdied the last four holes on his way to a 67 and second place at nine-under 279.
