Temporary stay on TV serial

By Our Staff Correspondent

PATNA Aug.19. The Chief Judicial Magistrate, S.K. Shrivastava, today temporarily stayed the telecast of the controversial serial, `Ramkhelawan CM and family', till August 27. The order was faxed to the producers to ensure that the serial was not telecast by SAB TV from this evening itself. Mr. Shrivastava, officiating as the Sub-Judge I in the absence of the incumbent, D.K. Chaudhary, directed the Adhikari Brothers Television Network Limited to reply within a week why the telecast should not permanently stopped, turning down the company's petition seeking three weeks' time to approach the Supreme Court for hearing all petitions filed in this respect.

Brushing aside the submission of the petitioners that the respondents were casting doubts on the court's integrity, Mr. Shrivastava underlined the need to proceed on the merits of the case and decided to give the producers of the serial one last chance to submit their side of the case.

The Adhikari Brothers had failed to respond to the court's directive on two earlier dates — August 17 and 19.

Instead they had filed their own petition wanting a hearing outside the State.

The order granting a temporary stay has been faxed to the Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Gautam Adhikari, who is among the eight accused for bringing a "bad repute" to the former Chief Minister and RJD president, Laloo Prasad Yadav, and his family, including the Chief Minister, Rabri Devi.
