Bangalore, Aug. 19. The Commissioner of Collegiate Education, Lukose Vallathurai, the Director of Technical Education, Channakeshavalu Kalmadi, and 16 other officials are likely to face disciplinary action for their failure to use Kannada in their official work. The Chairman of the Kannada Development Authority, Baragur Ramachandrappa, has recommended disciplinary action against them under a notification issued by the Government on June 13, which has empowered him. Prof. Ramachandrappa said that he had decided to recommend action against the officials after studying the use of Kannada in their offices. Under the notification, officials guilty of not using Kannada in their official work are liable to four types of punishment: reprimand, denial of annual increment, withdrawal of time-bound increment, and also denial of promotion. The disciplinary authority is required to decide on the punishment within three months or he himself will be liable for punishment.
