Mr. Horatti told The Hindu that the indefinite strike had been forced on them due to the lack of response from the Government to their demands, which were being aired often. On the claim made by B.K.Chandrashekar, Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education, that the ban on recruitment in aided institutions had been lifted, Mr. Horatti said this was one of the several demands placed before the Government. Seen in a broader context, its response had been half-hearted. Mr. Horatti wondered what was preventing the Government from accepting the demands which did not involve any financial implications. Due to the wrong policies of the Government, some managements were exploiting teachers and students, he said. Mr. Horatti said that none of the organisations participating in the strike would come in the way of the Government taking action against erring managements. "We do not want to shield them, but we do not want honest ones to be harassed." Mr. Horatti said that there was no question of educational institutions opening as long as the strike lasted. No employee could enter the premises as the managements, which were participating in the strike, had locked the premises. After taking out processions in the district headquarters today, the striking employees would assemble at their institutions on Tuesday, sign in the unofficial register, and return home. Mr. Horatti said that while the response to the strike was overwhelming all over the State, it was lukewarm in Bangalore.
