P. Shankar, new CVC

NEW DELHI AUG. 19. P. Shankar, Planning Commission Secretary, has been appointed the new Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC). He would succeed Nagraj Vittal whose three-year term expires next month.

Mr. Shankar, a senior Tamil Nadu cadre IAS officer, has served as Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu. He will be the second CVC after the Supreme Court order of December 1997 put in place a new vigilance regime giving power of superintendence over the CBI to the CVC.
