Letters to the Editor
Sir, This is with reference to the report on a girl who was "auctioned" in Gohananla village in Chattisgarh committing suicide (Aug. 20). It is sad that about 500 people witnessed the auction and nobody raised a voice. The girl who was "auctioned" on the pretext that she was "wayward" was 18 years old and had the right to decide for herself. Moreover, why was the boy, who developed physical relationship with her, not punished in a similar fashion? Where were the police when the girl was being auctioned and why did they not take any action?
Shraddha Maheshwari,
