But luck did not desert the Delhi lad. Thanks to R. Arun Prakash's withdrawal, owing to a shoulder problem, he got a new lease of life as a lucky loser. On Tuesday, he made ample use of the given opportunity to rally from a 0-3 deficit in the decider to oust eighth seeded Manoj Kumar Sewa of Kolkata 0-6, 6-0, 6-3 and advance to the second round of the boys' under-18 section. In another upset of the day, qualifier Inder Kumar Mahajan of Madhya Pradesh entered the second round trouncing sixth seed Dhrub Kumar of Kolkata 6-1, 6-3. In the girls' under-18 section, though sixth seeded Sandri Gangotri of Hyderabad saved four matchpoints against Statemate K. Pooja two in the tenth game (40-15), and two in the twelfth game (40-15), the qualifier had the last laugh, as she won the decider in a close tie-breaker, the scoreline being 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 (7-5). Parul Goswami of New Delhi put it across Karnataka's Swetha Devaraj, the seventh seed 6-1, 6-2, in around 40 minutes. Later in the evening, up-and-coming M. Jeevan committed far too many unforced errors and bowed out to Kolkata's Rupesh Roy 2-6, 4-6 in the first round of the boys' under-18 section.
