Tamil Nadu-Chennai
By Our Staff Reporter
The federation president, V. Santhanam, said following a representation to the Pallavaram municipal chairman, P.Dhan Singh, on Monday, the town received about 27 lakh litres of water today. On Monday, the supply was only 12 lakhs. Mr. Santhanam said the rationale of diverting Alandur's share of Palar water to Tambaram was unfair as the scheme was commissioned in 1974 to serve the two towns. Meanwhile, Alandur residents complained that the TWAD Board had supplied only 11.9 lakh litres as against 20 lakhs litres today. The president of Lakshmi Nagar Civic Welfare Association, V. Rama Rao, said the short supply had affected Lakshmi Nagar, Voltas Colony, Sri Ram colony, Hindu Colony, Civil Aviation Colony, where most wells had gone dry. Diverting supply to Tambaram would affect many parts of the town, as only two overhead tanks--at Alandur and Adambakkam--received about 10 to 15 lakh litres.
