Corpn. campaign against AIDS

CHENNAI Aug. 20. The Chennai Corporation AIDS Prevention and Control Society (CAPACS), flagged off 100 autorickshaws in the city carrying messages on AIDS control and prevention on Monday. The autorickshaws with a red hood will also carry information on the 24-hour AIDS helpline run by the Society.

Having already released advertisements on 50 autorickshaws last month, the number of these vehicles now has gone up to 150. The Corporation has decided to pay Rs. 315 per month to the owners of the autorickshaws for bearing the messages.

Before flagging off the vehicles, the Health Minister, S. Semmalai, stressed on awareness as a means to detect HIV/AIDS early or to prevent the same. The Deputy Mayor, `Karate' R.Thiagarajan, inaugurated the helpline.
