Dinesh, Swati claim titles

NEW DELHI AUG. 21. International Master Dinesh Kumar Sharma scripted a fortuitous escape to victory over Gajendra Singh in the seventh and final round and with it, claimed the men's title in the all India LIC chess tournament at Jaipur on Tuesday.

In the women's section, Swati Ghate was the winner. After Swati and fellow Woman International Master Nisha Mohota tied for the top prize with 4.5 points from five rounds, the champion was decided on the basis of the progressive count.

Men: Sriram Jha (6) bt Brajesh Aggarwal (4.5); Atanu Lahiri (5.5) drew with Vishal Sareen (5); Dinesh Sharma (6) bt Gajendra Singh (4); Anup Deshmukh (5) bt M. M. Parmar (4); H. B. Chakravarty (3.5) lost to S. Rangarajan (4.5); A. Thomas (3) lost to M. Senthilvel (4); C. N. Ramsuryam (4) bt A. Srivastava (3); R. Hanumantha (3.5) drew with S. M. Raviprakash (3.5); V. Prameshwaran (3) lost to M. M. Saeed (3.5); S. Rajoria (3) bt K. R. Bhat (2.5); J. K. Sahu (3.5) bt A. Harse (2); Mukesh Kumar (2.5) drew with A. Kher (2.5); B. K. Gupta (0) lost to B. C.
