States to be allowed to have 'native players'

KOLKATA AUG. 21. The All India Football Federation has decided to go ahead with its plans of allowing the States to requisition `native players' for their respective squads in the 58th National football championship for the Santosh Trophy to be played at Imphal during October 17 to November 5.

According to the AIFF secretary, Mr. Alberto Colaco, this is the first time in the long history of the game that a State will be able to call the players born in their State and are currently playing for another State, for the annual inter-State showpiece.

The State associations, who wish to avail the services of their `native' players, will have to inform the association at which the player is currently registered, one month before the start of the tournament. While the players' whose services are not required by the State associations of his origin may play for the State association under which they are presently registered, informed the secretary.

Cluster I: Bengal, Rajasthan and Jammu & Kashmir; Cluster II: Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Chandigarh; Cluster III: Punjab, Mizoram and Madhya Pradesh; Cluster IV: Manipur, Pondicherry and Himachal Pradesh; Cluster V: Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar and Daman & Diu; Cluster VI: Services, Uttar Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim; Cluster VII: Karnataka, Haryana, Gujarat and Tripura; Cluster VIII: Orissa, Delhi, Nagaland and Andaman & Nicobar.
