Hingis in quarterfinals

NEW HAVEN AUG. 22. Martina Hingis of Switzerland outlasted hard-hitting Alexandra Stevenson of the United States 7-5, 6-4 on Wednesday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Pilot Pen tennis tournament.

The results (second round): Martina Hingis bt Alexandra Stevenson 7-5, 6-4; Anastasia Myskina bt Justine Henin 7-6 (2), 6-2; Amelie Mauresmo bt Elena Bovina 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (1); Daniela Hantuchova bt Iva Majoli 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.
