Letters to the Editor
Sir, The Election Commission's decision to defer the elections in Gujarat is right as the lives and the condition of the people matter more than the written Constitution. The urgency shown by the BJP indicates that it wants to hide behind the veil of elections and prove that the Narendra Modi Government was not responsible for the communal carnage.
Krishna R. Patel,
Sir, This refers to the Gujarat Chief Minister, Narendra Modi's outburst against the Chief Election Commissioner. It does not behove the stature of a Chief Minister to have used such language and attribute motives to the CEC. The EC's decision on Gujarat elections was taken unanimously by a three-member constitutional body. The Prime Minister should advice Mr. Modi to exercise restraint while making statements against the constitutional office.
Satish R. Murdeshwar,
Sir, We have heard of skeletons in the cupboards. Gujarat has beaten everybody in showing that it has skeletons in the gutters also. The Chief Minister is going around the State on a `gaurav rath yatra' criticising a constitutional authority. The day is not for off when the party will criticise the President in a similar way if he doesn't bow to its wishes.
Srinivasan,
