Pragati's friend fails to visit Crime Branch

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI AUG. 23. Because of ill-health of Pragati Sharma, daughter of Shivani Bhatnagar murder case prime accused Ravi Kant Sharma, her friend Amresh Mishra could not visit the Delhi Police Crime Branch offices at Adarsh Nagar, today. He is likely to go there on Saturday. Meanwhile, the hunt is on for Ravi Kant Sharma.

Also, Pragati who had wished to approach the National Human Rights Commission could not do so for the same reason.

Meanwhile, the police here said there was no concrete information about R.K. Sharma who is absconding. "We do not have any accurate information about him, but the hunt is on,'' said the Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), U.K. Katna. Te leads are being worked upon, he added.

The police had questioned both Madhu Sharma, R.K. Sharma's wife, in Panchkula and Pragati in Delhi, on Thursday. While they were not reported to have revealed any information about the whereabouts of R.K. Sharma, the police were supposed to have derived some clues from what they said.

The teams, which have apparently traced the Maruti Esteem car - allegedly used in the crime - to a State in South India, were yet to return. The car was apparently sold to a person as part of normal transaction.

The police are now said to be concentrating on gathering evidence which would help in nailing R.K. Sharma as the main conspirator. According to sources, with the arrest of the three accused - Sri Bhagwan Sharma, Pradeep Sharma and Satya Prakash - the case of murder has been solved. What remains is to link it to the conspiracy hatched by R.K. Sharma. Meanwhile, efforts are on to identify the fourth accused.

The police are said to be close to reconstructing the entire sequence of events and would be in a position to explain the taking away of a camera, the chain and some other articles from the scene of crime, by the accused.

The police said they were ready to reply to the contempt petition filed by Sri Bhagwan Sharma's counsel, alleging that his arrest was made in complete contravention of Supreme Court guidelines. The date for the hearing is yet to be fixed by the High Court, where the petition is pending.
