By Our Staff Reporter

PALAKKAD AUG. 24. The famous percussion artist, Pallavur Kunjikuttan Marar, died at a private hospital here this afternoon. He was 59.

According to hospital sources, Marar died of coronary problems. An expert in thimila instrument of panchavadyam, Marar took over the mantle of `pramanam' of the famous `Madathil varavu' panchavadyam of the Thiruvambady Temple in this year's Thrissur Pooram after the death of his elder brother, Pallavur Manian Marar, in June 2001. He had then won accolades from critics for his stirring performance at the `Madathil varavu' panchavadyam. He was also a regular participant at the Nenmara-Vallangi Vela in Palakkad district. He is survived by his wife and two children. The last rites will be performed at the Ivar Madhom near Thiruvillamala at 10 a.m. tomorrow.
