12 shot dead in Jammu

Jammu Aug. 24. Intensifying their attacks in the run-up to the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, militants gunned down 12 Muslims, including three women, in three separate overnight strikes in Jammu region, official sources said here today.

The DIG of Rajouri-Poonch district, S.S. Bijral, told The Hindu, "militants swooped down on Dudansaballa village in Rajouri district around midnight and fired indiscriminately, killing five men and three women''. In another incident at Kalali, militants beheaded two Muslims. In the third incident, ultras killed the bodyguard of a National Conference leader and his father in Gandoh area of Doda district.A police team has been sent to the spot and search operations have been launched to nab the militants, he said.
