Kerala keeps title

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Aug. 24. Kerala retained the overall title in the South Zone cycling championship which concluded here on Saturday. The host, which swept 24 gold medals out of the 30 at stake in track events, came first with 213 points. Karnataka which dominated the road races was second with 83 points. Andhra finished third with 49 points.

The results:

Men: 70-km mass start: 1. S. Prabhu (TN) (1:54.18.33), 2. Hanumanth (Kar) (1:54.18.55), 3. Gangadharan (TN) (1:56.40.60).

Boys (under-18): 30-km mass start: 1. Pardhuram S. Gowd (Kar) (50:34.45), 2. Lamani (Kar) (52:56.34), 3. Chandrakanth (AP) (54.47.23).

Under-16: 15-km mass start: 1. Micheal Kurien (AP) (23:30.23), 2. N. Lokesh (Kar) (24:34.57), 3. Kannappa S. Korni (Kar) (24:46.28).

Women: 18-km mass start: 1. Shelia S. Patil (Kar) (36:26.49), 2. Kavitha A. Neppanavar (Kar) (36.27.26), 3. Farzana Sheikh (Kar) (36:27.85).

Girls (under-18): 15-km mass start: 1. Girija Reddy (AP) (26.56.10), 2. Reshmi (Ker) (26:56.40), 3. Ishwarya (AP) (26.56.71).

Overall championship: 1. Kerala (213 points), 2. Karnataka (83pts), 3. Andhra Pradesh (49).
