Why the yatra?

Sir, — The BJP's decision to take out a `gaurav rath yatra' to propagate the "achievements" of the Modi Government is ludicrous. What is the need of this `yatra' in these days of agony and hatred. By conducting the `yatra', the BJP is sniggering at the minorities, who are in real panic. The Centre's defiant stance on the Election Commission's decision to defer the Gujarat elections is evidence of the BJP's brazen bigotry.

Sir, — This has reference to the report `Gujarat Govt. to approach SC on poll panel decision?' (Aug. 19). The State Government was given the go-ahead by the Centre to approach the Supreme Court against the Election Commission's decision to postpone the elections. At the same time, the Centre decided to refer the issue to the President to obtain a directive from the Supreme Court, which has since admitted the same. This dual action on the part of the NDA Government is an undignified game, which belittles the President and the Election Commission.

If the court passes strictures against the NDA outfit, will it quit?

K. Rangaswami,
Bangalore
