By Our Staff Reporter

CUDDALORE AUG. 26. Three persons including two activists of the banned Tamil Nadu Liberation Army (TNLA) were arrested near Neyveli on Saturday night by the Mandarakuppam police. Lethal weapons and a pipe bomb were seized from them.

The police said here today a team, under the supervision of the Neyveli DSP, S. Murugiah, arrested the trio, while on a vehicle-check on the Valayamadevi cross road.

They had been identified as N. Saravanan (27), Mandarakuppam town committee secretary of the TNLA, M. Arumugam (22), a key activist of the extremist outfit, and J. Kamalakannan (25), a life-convict in a murder case. Kamalakannan came out of the prison on `ministerial leave' recently. The team found that the trio had concealed two long sickles and a pipe bomb under the seat of their two-wheeler.

They were also involved in a bus dacoity near Mandarakuppam on August 13 when they looted a cellular phone and a bag from a passenger.

Soon, they had struck at a fruit merchant's house at G.K. Colony and took away Rs. 3.5 lakhs by brandishing knives at the trader.
