CHENNAI Aug. 26. Police officers in Tamil Nadu have been alerted to take all steps to prevent any law and order incident following the burning of a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus in Karnataka in the wake of the kidnapping of a former Minister, H. Nagappa, by the forest brigand, Veerappan, on Sunday night.

The day passed off peacefully though the usual tension in the border areas, which accompany such incidents, prevailed.

As a precautionary measure, police had been alerted so that law and order continued to be maintained, the Director-General of Police, B. P. Nailwal, said. Operation of buses from Tamil Nadu to Karnataka had been suspended in view of the incident.
