Protest against pandal removal

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Aug. 26. The satyagraha launched by the Quit Kerala Satyagraha Samithy against the Asian Development Bank (ADB) entered a new phase with the Government removing the pandals before the Secretariat.

When Jerome Fernandes and Reshma Bharadwaj who were continuing the satyagraha called off the fast, the samithy vice-chairperson, Maithreya, and co-ordinator, K. Gireesh Kumar, picketed the Secretariat gate, courted arrest and started fast. The samithy also decided to spread the agitation all over the State. It took out a demonstration in the city in protest against the arrest.

Meanwhile, the NGO Front president, Kallada Napolean, has protested against the removal of pandals. In a statement, he demanded the Government to review the decision. He accused the State Government of acting as per the dictates of the ADB.
