Letters to the Editor
Sir, What is amazing is the ease with which the forest brigand, Veerappan, strikes and kidnaps his victims. History will now be repeated with audio cassettes, demands and negotiators. A lot of resources have been wasted in the anti-Veerappan operations. At least now both the Tamil Nadu and Karnataka Governments, with help from the Centre, should launch an all-out drive to nab Veerappan and his gang. No ransom should be paid nor any of his demands met. No emissary should be involved in negotiations. Given the will and minus any political interference, the Special Task Force should be able to put an end to the shenanigans of Veerappan. A tough, no-nonsense stand is the only language which the ruthless killer understands.
D.B.N. Murthy,
* * * Sir, It is time the Karnataka and Tamil Nadu police worked in tandem and chalked out a plan of action to arrest Veerappan. Political will, firm decisions and the non-interference of politicians will make the task easy.
H.P. Murali,
