Student leader killed

Kanpur Aug. 27. Tension prevailed in Barra and Govindnagar localities following the killing of a student, Pradeep Yadav, and injuries to six in clashes on the eve of students' union elections at a local college.

In the clash between the two rival groups, the personal guard of a student leader opened fire, killing Mr. Yadav.

The students went on a rampage and damaged several vehicles.
