Ranjit takes lead

GURGAON AUG. 28. Overnight leader Ranjit Singh broke free and established a two-stroke lead after two rounds in Group A, in the IGU junior golf tour tournament at the DLF Golf and Country Club here on Wednesday.

Ranjit carded a back-to-back four-over 76 to take his aggregate to 152. As the course conditions improved with bright sunshine on Wednesday, Ranjit played a steady game to stay on course for the title.

Karan Vasudeva, who was tied for the first position with Ranjit after the first round, played a round of 78 and slipped to the second spot with an aggregate of 154. Ajay Kumar (78, 78) was third followed by a group of three in fourth position.

In Group A, the cut was applied at 25-over 173 to keep 50 per cent of the field in the fray.

Kunal Balhara led Group B with an improved performance in the second round.

After an opening round of 83, Balhara carded 78 to be at 13-over 161. Ajeetesh Sandhu faltered with 86 after his 80 on the first day, but still held on to the sole second position.

In Group C, Arun Kumar (102, 96) and Gaurav Raxwal (104, 94) were tied for the first position.
