By Haroon Habib
Begum Khaleda, who received the reports of the two experts' committees on gas reserves and utilisation on Tuesday, said the decision on utilisation of natural gas would be taken "by involving the people... The national wealth would be utilised in such a way that would ensure the welfare and protect the present and future interests of the country.'' She said the Government would discuss the reports in Parliament, with political parties and civil groups before taking any decision. The reports said export was not possible without the discovery of new gas fields as the medium to long-term domestic demand for gas would surpass the existing proven reverses. The utilisation committee concluded that only ``limited gas export'' could be possible after incremental discoveries by international oil companies. The present production sharing contracts with foreign companies should be renegotiated and new deals involving the possible buyer signed.
