STF arests 'informer'

By Our Staff Correspondent

Mysore Aug. 28. The Special Task Force (STF) engaged in operations against Veerappan took into custody a suspected informer of the forest brigand near Kanchagalli, in the Hanur police limits, today.

The informer was identified as Madanayaka, who is believed to have closely monitored the movements of the former Karnataka Minister, H. Nagappa, and passed on the information to Veerappan thus facilitating the former's abduction, according to sources.

There are also conflicting reports that Madanayaka had in his possession 500 rupee notes which he apparently received from Veerappan in exchange for crucial information about Nagappa's movements. The STF's success comes close on the heels of renewed combing operations in the Gundal and Burude forest ranges since Monday following the deployment of additional forces. Likewise, the STF has intensified its efforts to nab another informer, identified as Muthu, who allegedly cooperated with Veerappan in the abduction drama.
