Sir, The Asian brown cloud, enveloping a caustic cocktail of ash, acids, aerosols and other particles, is just a reminder of your concern voiced in the Editorial, `Critical issues' (Aug. 26). One may blame the hungry millions for burning cowdung and firewood for their meals or accuse the developed nations for their avaricious consumerism. It is the population explosion of the poor countries and the consumerism of the developed that are responsible for this degradation.
