According to the AICC general secretary in-charge of Maharashtra, Vayalar Ravi, there was no merit in the reports on leadership change in the State. After his meeting with the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, the Chief Minister met Mr. Ravi, but did not raise his long-pending demand for a Cabinet expansion. Also, the open threat by 12 members of the Maharashtra Council of Ministers on Wednesday to pull out of the ruling alliance in the eventuality of a change in leadership was "not discussed''. Even as reports from Maharashtra suggest that Mr. Deshmukh had been summoned by the party leadership a view that gained currency given the open threat by the Ministers Mr. Deshmukh and AICC sources denied this.
