35 killed as boat capsizes

Bhubaneswar Aug. 31. About 35 persons are feared drowned when a country boat carrying them capsized midstream of river Baitarani in Jajpur district of Orissa today.

Six bodies have been recovered so far. The death toll is likely to increase as at least 70 persons were reportedly on the boat. According to sources, 32 persons swam to safety. The State Government has sought the assistance of the Navy to locate at least 35 persons who were missing. The boat was on its way to Debigada from Napange. The Government announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 50,000 to kin of the victims.
