Letters to the Editor
Sir, The write-up `Don't revive Dabhol' by Kannan Srinivasan (Aug. 30) sheds light on one of the greatest frauds perpetrated on the nation by Enron and our rulers. Hundreds of crores in the name of ``educating people'' were actually meant as bribes to the rulers which was candidly admitted by Bal Thackeray as reported. The project and the aftermath was nothing but blackmail on our sovereignty and a huge drain on our finances as rightly pointed in the article. What Enron Corporation has done in the U.S. should be an eye-opener to our rulers, if they really have the nation in mind. Dabhol has already been paid in excess and it is now pertinent to seize its assets. Also, stringent action is to be taken against the perpetrators of this crime. It was this Government, which during its 13-day rule, decided to grant ``counter guarantee'' to Dabhol. Jaganmohan Rao, Hyderabad
