The Rashtriya Janata Dal president, Laloo Prasad Yadav, staging a dharna along with party workers in Patna on Tuesday, against the `gaurav rath yatra' in Gujarat and the BJP Government's `anti-people policies.' PTI
Addressing a dharna of party workers here today to condemn Mr. Modi's gaurav yatra, now deferred by a couple of days, he said the apex court had clearly said that only the Election Commission could decide on the dates to hold elections and there was no alternative to dismissing the "communal-minded Gujarat Chief Minister". The President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, must also "recall the hardcore RSS Governor and appoint an impartial person to the post to govern the State". Mr. Yadav said that it was the bounden duty of the President to ensure that favourable conditions were restored for another constitutional body to discharge its duties. While reviewing the Gujarat situation, the Election Commission found that it could not hold elections by the due date. The RJD chief reiterated his charge that the post-Godhra violence in Gujarat had been sponsored by the BJP-led State Government. While the world condemned the carnage, the BJP and the RSS "considered it a matter of pride".
