Veerappan spotted at Kundal?

By Our Staff Reporter

ERODE Sept. 3. The Tamil Nadu and Karnataka STF personnel have intensified their search for the forest brigand, Veerappan, at P.G.Palaya near Nungahalli, 40 km from the Tamil Nadu border, following information on the movements of the bandit at Kundal.

A Karnataka STF personnel at Thimbam said six or seven persons was seen in the forests on the Karnataka side and the intelligence suspects it could be Veerappan and his associates.

More task force personnel have since been deployed. A joint meeting of STFs was conducted yesterday at the Kundal camp.

Plain-clothes men are keeping an eye on a pharmacy in the forest area, expecting Veerappan to send one of his associates to the shop for purchasing medicines for the captive, Nagappa, former Karnataka Minister, who is a diabetic.

Alert in Dharmapuri dt.

Our Dharmapuri Staff Reporter reports:

As many as five police stations in the hill areas in the district had been alerted for any possible movement of Veerappan, in the forest range within Dharmapuri, the Superintendent of Police, K. Periaiah, told reporters.

The possibility of the brigand moving into the Hogenakkal forest range could not be ruled out as most of his relatives were present in Eriyoor, Nerupur and other areas. Police vigil had been stepped up at the police stations in Eriyoor, Pennagaram, Hogenakkal, Anjetti and Thally.

The district police was in constant touch with the STF, he said.

Mr. Periaiah also noted that following the intensive drive on the Naxalites in the district, most of them had either gone into the hiding or were keeping a low profile. A special team was working on eradicating the Naxalite menace in the district, he said.
