Shankar sworn in CVC

NEW DELHI SEPT. 3. The Planning Commission Secretary, P. Shankar, was today sworn in Central Vigilance Commissioner at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, administered the oath of office to him.

Mr. Shankar, who will have a four-year term, succeeds N. Vittal, whose tenure ended on Monday.

The Vice-President, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, the Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, the Leader of the Opposition, Sonia Gandhi, and several Ministers were present.
