At a press conference, the Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime), Qamar Ahmed, said the SPP, S.K. Saxena, had only made a "passing reference" to the defence counsel, Dinesh Mathur, that Mr. Sharma had left the country and it was not a submission before the court. "So far as our information is concerned, Mr. Sharma is very much in the country and efforts are on to nab him,'' Mr. Ahmed said adding that reports about Mr. Sharma having fled to Nepal were not correct. Mr. Saxena had pleaded before Justice M.A. Khan that the anticipatory bail of the accused be rejected as he was now as good as an absconder. The court did not make any observation on the admission nor did the defence counsel oppose it. The court later reserved its orders on the bail application.
