The 18-year-old Megha who had clinched the singles title the earlier week at the same venue, was hampered by a niggling back pain, and thus was not at her physical best to challenge the top-seeded Thai. However, Megha proved her mettle by sweeping through the doubles field, for the loss of a mere 10 games in four matches, when the Indo-Thai pair beat both the top two seeds. "It is great to win back to back doubles titles. I am not at all disappointed with the quarterfinal loss in singles, as I was not physically fit'', said Megha, even as she summed up her experience in Nigeria, as being very productive though not as easy as one may visualise from the ranks of the players. The talented left-hander Megha said that she was very confident about her game after the training stint in the US. She also emphasised that she was eager to get back to the Indian circuit over the next fortnight with tournaments in Mysore and Hyderabad.
The results: Singles (quarterfinals) : Prariyawan Ratanakrong (Tha) bt Megha Vakharia 6-1, 6-3; Pre-quarterfinals : Megha bt Amany Khalifa (Egy) 6-4, 4-6, 6-3; First round : Megha bt Aminat Balogun (Ngr) 6-1, 6-2. Doubles (final): Megha Vakharia and Prariyawan Ratanakrong (Tha) bt Nicoleta Ratiu and Alexandra Zotta (Rom) 6-2, 6-0; Semifinals : Megha and Prariyawan bt Yomna Farid and Amany Khalifa (Egy) 6-0, 7-5; Quarterfinals : Megha and Prariyawan bt Femi Odeyemi-Musa (Ngr) and Jessica Weyreuter (Arg) 6-0, 6-1; First round : Megha and Prariyawan bt Megan Emmett and Annabel Youthed (GBR) 6-1, 6-1.
