New Delhi Sept.7. After a day of glitches and "house arrests'' in Srinagar, a four-member All-Party Hurriyat Conference delegation arrived here to hold talks with the Kashmir Committee, headed by the former Union Law Minister, Ram Jethmalani.

The Hurriyat delegation met with the committee this evening. It comprised the APHC chairman, Abdul Gani Bhat, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, Javed Mir (JKLF) and Sheikh Ali Mohammed (Jammat-e-Islami). The talks were being held at Mr. Jethmalani's residence.

The Hurriyat delegation was to have arrived here yesterday, but police had prevented them from leaving their houses. The police authorities believed that the Hurriyat leaders were planning to travel to various mosques to use the pulpit to incite the congregations against elections.

But the Kashmir Committee believes that the "house arrests'' is a deliberate provocation by the Farooq Abdullah Government, which has been suspected of somehow arousing the Hurriyat leaders into giving a boycott election call.

Interesting enough, the Kashmir Committee is expecting that over the next two days it would be able to organise a meeting between the Hurriyat leaders and the Defence Minister, George Fernandes. The Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister have already refused to meet the Hurriyat leaders.
