Bid on NC candidate's life

Srinagar Sept. 7. A ruling National Conference candidate escaped a bid on his life, even as three militants and two policemen were killed and three securitymen injured in violence in Jammu and Kashmir since last evening, an official spokesman said today.

Militants attacked the house of Mohammad Yousuf Bhat, National Conference candidate from the Sangrama constituency of Baramulla district, at Sharakwara-Kreeri last evening, he said.

Guards posted at Bhat's residence returned fire and in the ensuing gun-battle a guard was injured, the spokesman said.
