PRO offices set to go hi-tech

By Our Staff Reporter

Rajahmundry Sept. 13. The Minister for Information and Public Relations, S. Chandra Mohan Reddy, on Friday said that in tune with the fast-changing information technology scenario, the Government would provide computers, video sets and digital cameras to all DPRO offices in the State. Divisional PROs would be given phones or a special package cell phone, he added. Mr. Chandra Mohan Reddy, who along with his Cabinet colleagues Chikkala Ramachandra Rao and S. Saraswathi participated in many development programmes in Peddapuram Assembly segment, spoke to presspersons at R&B guest house in Kakinada.

He said film operators in DPRO offices would redesignated as publicity assistants and their work would be redefined. An arrangement to send all news items to the Chief Minister's Office was made.

This would enable the Chief Minister to personally respond to various issues raised in newspapers, Mr. Chandra Mohan Reddy said. Rejoinders wherever required would also be given.

On lack of vehicles at the command of DPROs, the Minister said that maintenance of vehicles by DPROs was found to be a costly affair. However, DPROs were permitted to hire vehicles whenever necessary. However in important places like Tirupati and Vijayawada, vehicles would be provided to information centres.

Answering questions, the Minister asserted that execution of the Food-for- work programme had boosted the image of the Government. It had made a lasting impression on the public, he claimed.

People had seen the permanent assets created by the execution of the programme and they would not be carried away by the motivated criticism of the Opposition, the Minister asserted. However, if there were any irregularities, the Government would take stern action against the culprits. In the past also the Opposition had criticised the Janmabhoomi programme and had earned the wrath of people, the Minister pointed out.

Later Mr. Chandra Mohan Reddy and the Minister for Women and Child Welfare, S. Saraswathi, Minister for Cooperation, Chikkala Ramachandra Rao, the vice-chairman of State Planning Board, Boddu Bhaskara Rao, the ZPP chairman, Dunna Janardhana Rao, and the Kakinada MP, Mudragada Padmanabham, made a whirlwind tour of the Peddapuram Assembly segment and inaugurated cement roads and school buildings and laid foundation for other roads under various schemes in Venkatakrishnarayapuram, Hussainpuram, G. Medapadu, Pedabrhamadevam and Vetlapalem villages.

Addressing a public meeting at Vetlapalem village, Mr. Chandra Mohan Reddy urged people to actively involve in the execution of developmental works. Transparency should be ensured in all works, he said, stressing the need to create permanent assets. Later, Mr. Chandramohan Reddy laid foundation for an e-Seva centre in Samalkota.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the Government was giving top priority for creation of infrastructure. This was done keeping in mind the long-term developmental needs of the State, he said.

In all works, the participation of stakeholders was ensured, he said. The Minister for Women and Child Welfare said that Budget allocation for her department was increased by about Rs. 100 crores. This had enabled the Ministry to take up many projects meant for the development of women and children, she said. Vanamadi Venkateswara Rao, Pilli Ananta Lakshmi, Parvatha Bapanamma, all MLAs and the Collector, K.S. Jawahar Reddy, and others participated.
