Cong. should ally with SP: Mulayam

Ratlam Sept. 15. The Samajwadi Party president, Mulayam Singh Yadav, today said the Congress should "join hands with his party to weaken the communal and fundamentalist forces" in Gujarat and wrest power from the BJP. Speaking to reporters here, Mr. Yadav said the main Opposition in Parliament was yet to respond to his party's alliance proposal, due to "confusion in the party."

Referring to the foreign origin of the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, he said the issue had already been decided by the Supreme Court. Pointing out that the Congress and Ms. Gandhi were not a challenge for the SP, Mr. Yadav said the BJP was a "big challenge" for his party and appealed to all like-minded forces to come together on a common platform to fight communalism. — PTI
