The police removed the idol on the instructions of the District Collector at around 10.30 p.m. The Shiv Sena had sought no prior permission to erect the idol, police said. It was removed in a police truck and deposited at the Attakulangara junction. Irate Shiv Sena workers forcibly closed shops at Attakulangara. A police force led by the Assistant Commissioner (Traffic), Thomas Kutty, reached the spot to defuse the tension. Later, the idol was taken to the Sena headquarters.
